Heritage Makers: heritage

What is "heritage?"

It's what makes us the person who we've become. It's our beliefs. Our traditions. It's our stories.

Preserving heritage is about passing along those items from our parents and grandparents to our siblings and to our children.

And it's why Heritage Makers was founded.

Here are a few ideas on how you can preserve your heritage:

Genealogy

Collecting statistical data, copies of documents, authenticating stories, researching and reading about history and assembling them into stories is a great way to preserve your family's history.

Family Yearbooks

How putting together a book about a year of your family's life? Capture the activities, stories and photos of each year!

Family Cookbook

Old family recipes are treasures. They document the merging of cultures and families. They also tell something about the person who prepared them. Capture your family favorites in a cookbook that preserves your family's favorite delicacies.

History of Heirlooms

Are you the collector of precious family heirlooms? Do you know the stories about them? Who did they belong to? What was that person like? Why did they keep it? Keep those stories, along with photographs of those heirlooms, in a book to document their history as well as preserve them from ending up as "trash" some day.

Biographies

Everyone has a story, and every story is unique to that individual. In many cases, that person was a hero to someone. It could be your mother, your father, a grandparent, a friend or someone famous. Why not write your hero's story! Here's how one family captured their story.

Documents & Letters

Although photographs are priceless and capture stories without writing, the journaling behind them tells even more. Do you have precious documents and letters you want to preserve? They could be official documents such as birth certificates, letters from grandpa while he was in the war, love letters shared between your mom and dad while they were dating, newspaper clippings from events that impacted your life, and so many more. Preserve them and share them with family in a book!
